Hi there, my name is Vivek Sahu

Research Associate

Vivek Kumar Sahu joined the NEWAM project as a Research Associate at the University of Manchester in July 2022. He is optimizing and tailoring the microstructure of the WAAM components employing different characterization techniques such as electron microscopy, EBSD, X-ray diffraction, and dilatometry as well as microstructure modelling.

He received his B.Tech. in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Raipur, India (2014) and his M.Tech in the Department of  Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India (2016). In his M. Tech. thesis, he worked on the recrystallization and deformation texture of interstitial free steel. He completed his PhD in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India (September 2022). In his PhD thesis, he investigated the deformation and damage evolution as a function of crystallographic texture and notch severity in commercially pure titanium using digital image correlation, electron microscopy, in-situ EBSD, mechanical testing tools and CPFE simulations. He also worked on fatigue and fracture mechanics of additively manufactured and conventional Ti6Al4V.
