Prof Joseph Robson (JR) received his MA and PhD from the University of Cambridge (Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy). He was appointed lecturer at the University of Manchester in 2003 and was promoted to a Professor of Physical Metallurgy in 2016. He has expertise in microstructural evolution and modelling of aluminium and magnesium alloys. Particular interests include the evolution of microstructure during complex processes such as welding and additive manufacturing and he is contributing expertise on these topics to NEWAM. Hobbies include riding bikes and walking up hills.
