I received my bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from University Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Immediately after my graduation, I joined Toshiba TEC corporation in Singapore as an industrial and manufacturing engineer. At Toshiba, I held multiple roles across their manufacturing department and received “Employee of the year” award in appreciation of my work. To broaden my horizons, I started a PhD at Glasgow Caledonian University and successfully defended the thesis titled “Industrial Robotics for Rolling-stock Maintenance”. Since then, I joined the team at Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering (CUE) at University of Strathclyde as a postdoctoral researcher. At the moment, I contribute to NEWAM (EPSRC), OAAM (Innovate UK) and several other projects that focus on joining and additive manufacturing. Here, I investigate and develop novel techniques to perform robotically enabled in-process inspection of additively manufactured and welded metal components. So far, I have published several research articles based on my undergraduate, PhD and current research findings. I’m a registered Charted Engineer (CEng) at Engineering Council, United Kingdom and a member of Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). I enjoy DIY projects - which my wife doesn’t appreciate much, and spending time with my family - which my wife appreciates.
